Roman Ingarden (1893-1970) apparteneva a quegli allievi di Husserl che si designano come “fenomenologia di Gottinga”. Si tratta della prima generazione di fenomenologi, nella quale rientravano, fra gli altri, anche Adolf Reinach, Hedwig Conrad-Martius ed Edith Stein. I ricercatori di questo gruppo erano influenzati soprattutto dalle Ricerche logiche di Husserl e reagirono un po’ stupiti alla sua successiva svolta idealistica. Per quanto riguarda lo stesso Ingarden, egli incontrò Husserl solo dopo la pubblicazione delle Idee, tuttavia filosoficamente appartiene senza dubbio (...) al periodo della prima fenomenologia “realistica”. L’influence de Pierre Poiret sur le milieu piétiste en Allemagne est très hétérogène. Il a lui-même découvert les idées d’Antoinette Bourignon à Francfort et s’est chargé de diffuser ses enseignements à travers les groupes piétistes, notamment les « piétistes radicaux ». Les idées millénaristes de J. W. et J. E. Petersen sont assez comparables à celles de Poiret. La Kirchen- und Ketzerhistorie de G. Arnold a mieux fait connaître l’importance de Poiret à propos du franchissement des frontières entre les confessions (...) religieuses. Les piétistes du Wurtemberg comme J. A. Bengel et Chr. F. Oetinger ont été influencés par le projet théologique de Poiret tel qu’il est esquissé dans l’Œconomie divine. Dans l’orphelinat de Halle, les écrits de Poiret sont publiés par A. H. Francke et A. W. Böhme. En même temps, Poiret est fortement critiqué par Ph. J. Spener, J. W. Jäger et J. Lange. Il fait enfin connaître la piété mystique par les biographies de plusieurs auteurs mystiques de la fin du Moyen Âge. Via G. Tersteegen, ces biographies sont mieux connues en Allemagne. Les dirigeants du mouvement de réveil (catholique) de l’Allgäu (début du XIXe siècle) ainsi que Hedwig von Redern, écrivain de la Gemeinschaftsbewegung (fin du XIXe siècle) ont repris ces biographies mystiques dans leur enseignement de la vie pieuse. Previous conversation analytic studies of institutional interaction included analyses of empathy in interaction. These studies revealed that professionals may use empathy displays not only to validate the client’s worry, but also to perform actions oriented to other institutional goals and tasks such as closing off a troubles-telling sequence. In this article, we present an analysis of empathically designed responses in Dutch telephone counseling. The data consist of 36 calls from the Alcohol and Drugs Info Line. In some of the calls, (...) clients’ troubles-telling includes ‘emotion discourse’, that is, descriptions of their feelings/emotions. Counselors may respond to these descriptions using conventional empathy displays like ‘I can imagine that’ and ‘I understand that’ in a range of verbal and prosodic variations. The analysis reveals that these responses open up advice sequences that vary in the extent to which they treat the client’s articulated feelings as valid. Most are affiliating, treating the client’s feelings as the basis for advice, while some are less affiliative, putting the client’s feelings into perspective or implicitly questioning their legitimacy. Hence, empathically designed responses are pivots to advice-giving. (shrink)

Im Ausgang vom historischen Scholastikbild Brentanos wird nach den Quellen und Interpretationshinsichten gefragt, die für Brentanos frühe und späte Fassung des Intentionalen leitend waren. Dabei zeigt sich, daß die Voraussetzung der Intentionalität in der aristotelischen Sachproblematik der Wahrnehmung liegt (De an. 424 al7), die Brentano mit dem scholastischen Begriff obiective interpretiert, einem Terminus, den Brentano von der Neuscholastik, aber auch von Descartes und dem spätmittelalterlichen Konzeptualismus her kannte. Es ist nun entscheidend, daß in dieser Terminologie nur ein sehr eingeschränkter Aspekt (...) der scholastischen Intentionalität thematisch ist, der in seiner internen Problematik den Ansatzpunkt für alle späteren Reinterpretationen abgibt. Jean-François Balaudé and Patrick Wotling’s introduction gives an idea of the complicated relation between philology and philosophy in Nietzsche’s oeuvre. An essential trait distinguishing the history of occidental thought from the leading trends of American and Asian philosophies may be found in a rather curious fact. The entire fabric of development and all progress of European philosophy, emerging and uniting out of numerous components, has always taken place as a kind of regress; that is, as a return to the past which sought in every epoch to ascertain its ancient, Greek origins. Continuity, in this connection, means less the identity of (...) philosophical problems and themes than the constant return and effort of a reflective recovery of ancient culture as the immanent basis of all further developments. Hence λόγοσ, νοῦσ and ἰδέα have remained the main criteria with respect to which empirical reality and human comportment sought their truth and justification. It is this decisive reference of ἀλήθεια which from the beginnings of European thinking until our day has been developed in the framework and according to the model of light. As sense structure of truth, light has served as the metaphor in relation to which the sense of being is open, graspable, transparent—that is, dominated by insight. (shrink)

Das Bild des »goldenen Berges« geht zurück auf geographische Angaben und Beschreibungen, die in der Antike als glaubwürdig angesehen wurden. In der Literatur illustriert die Metapher das Bedeutungsspektrum von Reichtum, Wohlergehen, Überfluss und Glück, spricht aber auch Warnungen aus. Dagegen werden in den philoso-phischen Interpretationen vor allem Konstitutionsprobleme des Fiktiven, auch der entia rationis, thematisiert. Die Metapher exemplifiziert Objekte, die logisch möglich sind, aber nicht wirk-lich existieren. In der Philosophiege-schichte – bis in die aktuellen Analysen der non-existent objects hinein – (...) wurde das Bild des »goldenen Berges« daher stets mit der Frage verbunden, welche Instanzen wir als »wirklich«, »möglich« oder »unmöglich« rechtfertigen kön-nen. Als Beispiel spiegelt die Metapher die Transformationen, in denen sich das Wirklichkeitsverständnis der philoso-phischen Tradition wie in einem Prisma gebrochen hat. (shrink)

So far, animals in fables have almost exclusively been studied as symbolic representatives of human behaviour. New perspectives are opened up by Human-Animal Studies which focus on the animals themselves and human-animal relationships. Inspired by this approach, this article examines five fables of Graeco-Roman antiquity which are connected by the motif of the vicious dog. On the basis of philological interpretation it is shown to what extent and with which intention the dogs are anthropomorphised and at the same time represented (...) as real animals. Interestingly, the human protagonists usually don´t blame the dogs and draw a clear borderline between animals and humans. It seems that successful communication is possible only within the same species. (shrink)

Although hailing from cognate analytical schools, the contributors to Hedwig te Molder and Jonathan Potter's edited volume Conversation and Cognition hold a remarkable diversity of views on the nature of "mental states" and their import for the purposes of analyzing naturally occurring interaction. I offer a critical analysis of some of the contributors' discussions of cognition in social interaction in an effort to clarify some obstinate issues with respect to the meanings of words in our cognitive vocabulary and their (...) identification in analyses of conversation. Die Bewertung der Kopernikanischen Wende, die bei Brentano weder eindeutig positiv noch negativ ist, hat ihre Pointe darin, daß Brentano den Kopernikaner verteidigt, der die Sprache des alten ptolemäischen Weltbildes spricht, der also etwas anderes sagt als er denkt. Diese Ambiguität, die Brentano von Leibniz übernimmt, wird ontologisch verschärft: Universalien, Existenzprädikate, Negationen, Zeitbestimmungen und generell Fiktiva, die eigentlich nicht sind, können als "seiend" angesprochen werden, sofern man sie in eine reistische Ontologie übersetzt, deren Sprache (nomina concreto) dann kategorial exakt, aber (...) lebensweltlich eher befremdlich ist. Hier liegen nicht geringe Probleme. Es scheint, daß sich eine kategorial exakte Rationalität der Erfahrung zwar dadurch retten läßt, daß man die Phänomene reistisch denkt. Aber es dürfte durchaus fraglich sein, ob auch die Phänomene gerettet sind, wenn der Philosoph — als Kopernikaner — sagt, was der denkt. (shrink)

The European influences which after the discovery of America reshaped the cultural development of the New World, but also destroyed its previous identity are much better known than the components which re-influenced the way in which Europeans saw themselves. This asymmetry shows remarkable aspects. We notice that the early European descriptions of America do not consider the ancient cultures of America with their foreign and archaic traits, but that several hidden preconceptions prevail. These claims become evident in the discussion on (...) the "human nature" of the Indians, the "noble savage" and in the philosophical and theological controversies that accompanied the formation of the ius gentium. All this suggests that theses biases towards America have arisen from Europe's own problems. Therefore, it is not incorrect to say that in the discovery of the New World the Old World was re-discovered, too not only in its own prejudices, its desires, ideals and utopias, but also in the cruel practices of the conquerors, in genocide. The first European descriptions of America were made from the point of view of the Caravelle and not with the eyes of those who were waiting on land unsuspectingly, without weapons but with gifts.
